CORAL ECOSYSTEM

Napoleon Reef

Napoleon Reef, shrouded in tales about its name, offers a dive full of surprises. Discover the wonderful corals in its shallow area and a deep pinnacle adorned with gorgonia fans. Approachable from the east or west, depending on the day’s conditions, it offers a versatile diving experience.

Depth: 3 to 25 m
Common Dwellers: scorpion fish, surgeonfish, angelfish, nudibranch, clownfish
Special Guests: whitetip reef shark, eagle ray, napoleon fish

Biowreck features a large coral bommie and two artificial structures. It is a dynamic dive site great for snorkeling and easy fun dives, while also awesome for macro photography in the right conditions.

Depth: 4 to 30 m
Common Dwellers: shrimp, crab, numerous nudibranchs, parrotfish, cornet fish, trumpetfish, mantis shrimp, leaf scorpionfish.
Special Guests: octopus, ghost pipefish, cuttlefish, golden trevally, pygmy seahorse.

Close Encounters is one of Pemuteran’s most iconic reef dives. Gentle slopes and scattered coral bommies make it ideal for relaxed exploration, while schooling fish and curious trevallies bring plenty of life to the scene. It’s a calm, camera-friendly dive with both macro and wide-angle opportunities – perfect for any level of diver.

Depth: 5 – 25 m
Common Dwellers: damselfish, anthias, parrotfish, butterflyfish, nudibranchs
Special Guests: turtle, trevally, cuttlefish, ribbon eel

Temple Garden lies just above the deeper wall, where statues and coral-covered structures rest between 5 and 18 m. The site combines natural reef and artificial statues, now fully encrusted with corals and sponges. Visibility is generally moderate, and currents are gentle, making it a comfortable dive for most certified divers who want to explore both corals and the temple sculptures in one profile.

Special Guests: turtle, cuttlefish, moray eel, ghost pipefish

MUCK & MACRO

Who doesn’t love a good muck dive? Muck Bay offers a different sight from the usual coral reefs but don’t let that fool you. It’s teeming with life – and what truly alien life it is!

Depth: 2 to 12 m
Common Dwellers: nudibranchs, flying gurnard, shrimp, crab, eel, seahorse, cuttlefish.
Special Guests: frogfish, mimic octopus, ornate ghost pipefish.

Nudi Beach is a gentle slope just west of BioWreck. The site gets its name for a reason – it’s one of the best spots in Pemuteran to find nudibranchs of every shape and colour. The sandy patches between smaller coral colonies are great for spotting shrimp, crabs, and small cephalopods. Visibility is usually good, and the easy profile makes it ideal for relaxed dives with a macro lens.

Special Guests: ornate ghost pipefish, shrimp, blue-spotted stingray

Just a bay over from Pemuteran, Matahari offers a completely different cast of critters. The sandy slope here is simple and open, with patches of rubble and seagrass, yet full of surprises for macro lovers. It’s a great spot for long, slow dives – easy depth, steady conditions, and plenty of time to focus on detail. Expect different species of nudibranchs, mimic octopus, and other small life not seen inside the bay.

Special Guests: seahorse, wunderpus, Flabellina, pink skeleton shrimp, and on rare occasions – dugongs

OUT OF THE ORDINARY

Deep Reef is a testament to regeneration, hosting our coral restoration project in collaboration with Coral Reef Care. Dive into this site for superb macro opportunities and witness the rebirth of marine life firsthand.

Depth: 10 to 40 m
Common Dwellers: nudibranch, mantis shrimp, parrotfish, trumpetfish, scorpionfish.
Special Guests: Whitespotted eagle ray, green sea turtle, octopus.

Garden of the Gods lies just off the beach to the west of Pemuteran Bay. Built in 2014 as part of a reef restoration project, it features a circle of Balinese deity statues, benches, and lanterns now colonised by sponges, soft corals, and critters of all kinds. The statues stand between 8 and 22 m, surrounded by sand and small coral patches. It’s a calm site ideal for macro dives, but the depth makes it better suited for experienced divers.

Depth: 8 – 22 m

Special Guests: octopus, cuttlefish, frogfish, Lembeh sea dragon

Temple Wall is the deeper part of the underwater temple site, starting around 30 m where the Balinese gateway rises from the sand. The wall drops steeply and is covered in sponges, gorgonians, and soft corals, offering plenty of ledges and cracks for macro hunters. Currents are usually mild but the depth makes it a dive for experienced divers with solid buoyancy and good air management.

Depth: 18 – 35 m

Special Guests: pygmy seahorse, skeleton shrimp, ornate ghost pipefish
